Droptree Productions is a small, savvy production house located in Portland, Oregon. Like many marketing agencies, self-promotion always takes a backseat to client work. We never get around to updating our reel or networking, because somehow there is always a competing client deadline. We spent most of the last two years on back-to-back shoots, traveling around the country and internationally for various clients.
To avoid Cobblers Children's Syndrome, we began utilizing downtime between takes on sets to capture footage. After many cuts and edits we finally had a music video that captured the tone and essence of who we are as a production house. It was important for us to not only convey our capabilities but to infuse the entire thing with humor. Because though we take our quality very seriously, we do not take ourselves seriously at all. This is a major selling point of working with Droptree Production, that our clients truly value. When you work with us, you will have fun.
We spent two years stealthily capturing the footage, and weeks tweaking the edit until we were satisfied. We wrote recorded and produced original music to help our white boy rhymes along. Finally, against our better judgement we posted a 5:18 music video, "HD Delivery”, to our Vimeo account and sent the link to clients and friends.
“HD delivery” received almost a quarter of a million organic views. The video was picked up by adweek.com in July. (http://www.adweek.com/agencyspy/this-production-company-made-an-incognito-hip-hop-video-during-2-years-of-commercial-shoots/134205) And in December, 'HD Delivery; made #2 in Adweek's The 27 Biggest Agency Spy Posts of 2017. (http://www.adweek.com/agencyspy/the-27-biggest-agencyspy-posts-of-2017/141652).
Best of all we got 46000 people to watch a 5+ minute video of white boys rapping all the way to the end. We saw an exponential uptick in views of our reel and other videos on our Vimeo channel. We got the word out about Droptree Production. Client compliments came pouring in, and we could not be happier.
